Darlington Council engaged JK to prepare a masterplan for the station readiness for the proposed HS2 East Coast mainline improvements. In particular, they wanted to understand how to achieve a higher density of viable developments around the station to benefit from the major infrastructure requirement and related improvements.
In partnership with Arup, who dealt with rail infrastructure and master planning, JK was commissioned to advise on the commerciality of the plan and to prepare viability studies, to ensure that viable development opportunities were successful and would benefit from the foot traffic generated from the station. Our advice was supported by our previous success in this style of development at Hull, York, Sheffield and Hexham.
